"Breeding Poultry Association” was founded on January 07, 1993 to solve the problems of breeders, and in 1994, with the participation of poultry meat industrialists, it was named "Association of Poultry Meat Producers and Breeders (BESD-BİR)" and a new formation was carried out on a wider basis. In addition to egg and meat breeding companies, the companies that had slaughterhouses and produce poultry meat were affiliated to the Association until 2006. As a result of a change in the Regulation in 2006, egg breeders left the association and BESD-BIR memberships of chicken and turkey meat producing companies and meat breeding companies continued.
BESD-BIR aims to develop the poultry meat industry of our country, to create values that will contribute to enterprises, to represent the sector in the most accurate way and to provide the necessary communication in public-industry relations.
The working areas of the association can be summarized as follows.
There are 21 member companies affiliated to BESD-BIR today. The General Assembly, formed with the participation of 114 members representing these companies, elects the Board of Directors and Supervisors to hold office for a period of 3 years. The Executive Board of the Association is composed of 6 staff, including a full-time general secretary, deputy general secretary, technical staff, accounting staff and a secretary.
BESD-BIR organizes International Poultry Meat Congress biyearly. The Congress has an important mission for the sector to share, disseminate and integrate science and technology more strongly into the world.
BESD-BIR is one of the founding members of the International Poultry Council (IPC), representing the Turkish poultry meat sector on an international platform among 23 other countries.
BESD-BIR works with all relevant stakeholders for the development of the industry. The Association participates in the Agricultural Councils and the Special Specialization Commissions in the preparation of the Development Plan and takes part in many studies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, especially the Meat and Meat Products Specialization Sub-Committee. In addition, the membership of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey to the Food Industry and Livestock Assemblies and the Federation of Food Associations of Turkey continues actively. Apart from these, BESD-BIR expresses its opinion on behalf of the poultry meat sector as a single representative in the preparatory works of laws, decrees and regulations made by public institutions related to the sector and strives for the adoption of a legislation that is in accordance with the practice with its contributions to these studies.
