Turkey's poultry meat sector, which produces 2.2 million tons annually and exports 500,000 tons of its production to 81 countries, made its first export to the People's Republic of China. For the last 10 years, the Chinese Government has opened its doors to Turkey with the support of the Association of Poultry Industrialists and Breeders (BESD-BİR), along with the initiatives of the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade.
Turkey's poultry meat sector, which ranked 10th in production and 7th in exports including the European Union in world trade, made its first export to the People's Republic of China after Japan as of November 6, 2020.
Following long-standing formal contacts and negotiations between Turkey and People's Republic of China and the agreement on the "Draft Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine and Veterinary Health Conditions of Poultry to be Exported from Turkey to China”, Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry said: “For the first time, poultry meat and products will be exported from our country to China. As a result of the long work carried out by our Ministry, it is very important for our sector that the People's Republic of China, one of the world's important importers, opens its doors to the Turkish poultry sector in the export of poultry meat and products. In the coming period, we will continue our efforts to increase the number of approved enterprises as a ministry for more poultry enterprises to export. "
The Association of Poultry Industrialists and Breeders (BESD-BİR) meticulously supported our relevant Ministries by representing the sector during the long years of negotiations between the two states. Naci Kaplan, President of BESD-BİR, stated that exports to the People's Republic of China are primarily proud of the country and of the poultry meat sector. Kaplan continued: “Our sector exports more than half of its exports to Iraq. Therefore, our search for new markets continues without slowing down. The export door to the People's Republic of China after Japan is very gratifying to us. Here, firstly, I would like to express our gratitude to the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade and to Dr. Sait Koca who has been the president of our association and has worked with great devotion in opening the Chinese market, on behalf of the sector."
Naci Kaplan, President of BESD-BİR, continued as follows: “Our facilities, which produce world-class products and comply with food safety rules with great care, have once again proven themselves. Gedik Piliç, one of the members of our Association, made its first export to China with chicken feet product on November 6. In a short time, with the quality of the sector, our export capacity to China will increase, other chicken meat products will be in demand and hopefully all our members will take their place in the market.
